JEIZEL HERNANDEZ
Interim President and Treasurer

Jeizel Hernandez is the Treasurer for SHPE Professional Chapter in Boston. She currently works at BAE Systems located in Nashua, NH as an Electrical Engineer. In her time a BAE, she has held important roles in development, integration, and support of hardware to a multi-million program contracted to the United States. She is also an Inroads intern Alumni where she worked for 2 consecutive years at Anheusser-Busch in Newark, New Jersey in the engineering and maintenance department.  

She received her B.S from L.C Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University in the spring 2008 and currently completed the Integrated Engineering Systems Certificate from Umass Lowell.

 

DARRYL STERLING
Vice President, Strategy and Operations

Darryl Sterling has over 14 years of international experience in creating thought leadership and strategic analysis for the wireless and wireline communications, digital media and entertainment, and high-tech industries as a market research analyst, strategy consultant and competitive intelligence analyst. He has written over 20 market research reports, and has been quoted in a number of international publications, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and Forbes. Although he is currently a contract analyst, he has worked for a number of prestigious companies, including IBM and the Yankee Group.
Darryl is a Boston native who has a bachelor of arts from Yale University and is of Panamanian descent.

JUANA Y. PANIAGUA
Director, Membership

Juana Y. Paniagua was born in Dominican Republic and immigrated to the United States after high school.  She has a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from UMass Lowell and a Masters from Manhattan College.  After college Juana started working in the biotechnology industry.  Since 2010 Juana has been working as a Quality Assurance Manager for Shire HGT in Lexington, MA.  She previously worked as an Investigator and Compliance Manager for Pfizer (formerly known as Wyeth) at the Pearl River site in New York.  
Juana was a member of the UMass Lowell SHPE student chapter and while in New York volunteered as an ESL and computer teacher for Mercy Center, a community center for women and their families located in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx.
  

MARY FOWLER 
Director, Educational Outreach

Mary Fowler is the Director for Education Outreach for SHPE Professional Chapter in Boston. She graduated from Boston University in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, and works as a Research and Development Design Engineer I at DePuy Spine Inc., a division of Johnson and Johnson. She previously worked on design and revisions of implants and instrumentation for spine surgeries, as well as assisted in the Rapid Prototyping Lab. 
Mary was the SHPE Boston University Chapter President during the 2010-2011 academic years.  She was also instrumental in establishing SHPE Boston’s educational outreach program, a hands-on after-school science and engineering workshop program targeted at students in grade 7 through 9, at City on a Hill charter school in Roxbury. She was also the Vice-President of the Society of Women Engineers at Boston University. She is looking forward to bringing her passion, motivation, and dedication towards developing outreach programs at local high schools in the Boston area to promote Latino involvement in STEM education fields.
